António Pontes, professor at the School of Engineering of the University of Minho (EEUM), director of the Institute of Polymers and Composites (IPC) and of DONE Lab – Advanced Manufacturing Laboratory of Products and Tools, is promoting the adoption of additive manufacturing technologies in Portuguese industry within the scope of INOV.AM.
INOV.AM's main mission is to introduce additive manufacturing technologies, better known as 3D printing, into Brazilian industry, and its main objective is to develop and disseminate knowledge and technologies with a view to interconnecting the characteristics of additive manufacturing with traditional production technologies.
This mobilizing agenda aims to improve the efficiency and flexibility of processes, allowing the creation of value-added products with more complex geometries and also with high quality.
Additive manufacturing also allows the production of products with sustainable characteristics, both from an economic and environmental point of view.
“Basically, what we are doing is using the material in a much more efficient way, taking advantage of the full capacity of these technologies in the production of products with added value,” he explains.
This initiative also has the ambition to create around 200 new jobs with advanced qualifications in the area of additive manufacturing.
INOV.AM is a mobilizing program for Innovation in Additive Manufacturing funded by the Recovery and Resilience Program (PRR).
